Social Media Sensation Herd Return Home

INTERNATIONAL: They’ve captured the hearts of a nation over the past five months and now their great trek is at an end. Fourteen wild elephants have returned to their protected habitat in southwest China's Yunnan province. Footage on EAC News shows the elephants safely crossing a bridge over the Yuan River, headed south towards their nature reserve.

An emergency committee had to set up electric fences, lay corn as bait, and build artificial roads to guide the elephants along the right path home. They’d become a social media sensation ever since they left the park in April and trekked over 1,300 kilometres.

They’re meandering took them through the cities of Yuxi and Honghe before reaching the outskirts of the provincial capital of Kunming back in June. No doubt they’ll still have plenty of fans watching them as they settle back into life in their protected habitat.
